Classics v Aldergrove #1
Newton Athletic
24th. November 2002

Pleasure in easy victory over old foe........
Classics started the game in hesitant mood but soon settled into a rhythm which was to set the tone of the game. They took the lead in the 10th. minute when Billy Ranger was on hand to scramble the ball home from close in to goal, and he made it two ten minutes later as he headed the ball into the top of the net after a great corner kick from the left by Hans Erker.

In the 35th. minute the Classics were awarded a free kick from 25 yards out. Jim Eden placed the ball and unleashed a rocket which left the Aldergrove goalkeeper scrambling as if he was catching flies with his bare hands. Aldergrove pulled a goal back when an attacker was left to run through the defence down the right. He headed for goal and placed a low shot to the left of stand in keeper George Wadsworth which he couldn't get down to.

Just before half time Ranger hit the fourth and completed his hat trick when the Aldergrove keeper fumbled the ball. Ranger picked up the loose ball and confidently dispatched it into the net. The next goal came in the 65th. minute when Mike Snow moved the ball well with Ranger who sent the ball over for McAuley who shot. Not the best of shots but the ball bobbled and deceived the keeper before it bounced over him and into the net for number 5.

Ten minutes from the end Aldergrove scored a consolation goal which was the result of a comedy of errors in the Classics penalty box. Legs and bodies were swinging everywhere but unfortunately the last one to swing was an Aldergrove forward. Eden was dismissed for the last three minutes but the Classics ground out a creditable win against the old foe and bogey team, Aldergrove.
