A game to forget........
The Classics just managed to cobble a team together, being let down by late injuries and unexpected calls to work. With several players carrying injuries and others under 'doctors orders' not to play, the rule book was thrown out of the window and all the starting eleven managed to get through the whole match without serious injury. It was a stoic display through inadversity and all 11 players and coach Jim Eden should be applauded for managing to weather the storm - literally! The first half ended 3-0 to the home side, the first two goals coming from the left flank. Warren Crowley had two fine efforts thwarted and the home keeper made a remarkable save from a long range David Breen strike which deserved more reward.

The second half was one way traffic with Transit taking advantage of the tiring legs of the visitors. Randy Hosler conceded a penalty which was scored, and it effectively concluded the game as a contest. Had it not been for some sterling work in goal from Jason Clegg the score could have been worse; he had to contend with the constant barrage of 'finger stingers' from the Transit forwards who were effectively having shooting practise. It was a good job he hadn't cut his fingernails before the match as one finger-tip save would have surely gone in! Two more goals emenating from the right flank made the score more distressing and a late penalty conceded by Sherman Foster added to the frustration. With tempers flaring, the referee blew the final whistle and condemned the Classics to their heaviest away defeat on record, the previous 7-1 mauling came at the hands (well maybe feet) of the Jolly Coachmen back on 17th September 2000, almost 18 years to the day. It's now a case of get up, dust yourself down and go at it again. David Breen made his 50th appearance in the match and it was debut day for Steve Palmer.
